The "Break Master" by Exelys

The Break Master is an easy to use digital device for reading the way putts break on the greens. It has eight arrows and a numeric display that shows weather a putt is uphill, downhill, left to right or right to left and any combination of the above. It is meant to be a training aid that helps you train your eyes to better read the greens. You can place it any where between your ball and the hole to find out the breaks along your line. It is not meant to be used in competitive rounds but it can be used for making notes in a yardage book on how greens break before a competition.

We used the Break Master at the Black Bear Golf Club just outside Orlando. It is a Pete Dye layout and was built about 10 years ago. It is a pretty wide open course but it has some of the trickiest greens that you will find any where. It was a perfect test for the Break Master. Any well designed green features a certain amount of trickery and optical illusions. You can look at the hole from one side of a putt and it looks like it breaks one way then look at it from the other side and it looks like it breaks the other way. The Break Master was a good tool in helping us see what features along the line influenced the putt. You can save any number of strokes by paying better attention to the subtleties of how and why putts break the way they do. The Break Master can go a long way in helping you towards that end.
